Schwartz, Alan

Alan L. Schwartz, PsyD is the Director of Behavioral Health Integration at Christiana Care Health System, a large non-profit health system in Delaware. He leads a team of Behavioral Health Consultants (BHCs) providing Integrated Behavioral Health Services for primary care and medical specialty practices. In his clinical practice through Christiana Care’s Outpatient Services, Dr. Schwartz specializes in providing psychotherapy, psychological assessments and behavioral sleep consultation and treatment. His eclectic approach to treatment reflects his experience in providing many types of psychotherapy. His training includes cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and psychodynamic, supportive-expressive, insight-oriented therapy. He uses empirically-supported treatments including CBT, behavioral approaches to sleep improvement (CBT-I), mindfulness based stress-reduction, exposure-based treatments, and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma. He is licensed to practice in Delaware and Pennsylvania. His other professional activities include training doctoral psychology students and advanced nurse practitioners. Dr. Schwartz is a member of the clinical faculty at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), Immaculata University, and his alma mater, the Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology at Widener University. Dr. Schwartz regularly presents at professional organizations in the areas of psychological assessment and psychotherapy. He is a Fellow of the Society for Personality Assessment and associate editor of its newsletter, The Exchange. Dr. Schwartz has long been involved in the assessment of high-risk personnel including police officers and security personnel. He is a consultant for the Federal Aviation Association (FAA) and assesses air traffic control and pilot candidates. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, Society for Behavioral Sleep Medicine, Collaborative Family Healthcare Association and Delaware Psychological Association.
